I have learned a lot in the workshop of the first few weeks, especially the same color collecting workshop and idea generation workshop. They inspired me to try to make some cards and design some stamps last week. Cause I want to try some different forms before I work on my outcome. From the discussion, I also got to know that some students are using photoshop for more color experiments. I think this is a good idea, I will try this way next time, it will not only save a lot of my time but also provide a lot of good results. Diana got a really great idea from last “Haring Animation”. She combined her storyboard with photos that she takes. The effect is very good and it makes people look forward to her finished product. This gave me a new inspiration. Maybe I will make a set of postcards combining photos and paintings. I think this should be very interesting.

02.15 Flip book

·Reflection

what is successful about the “Flip book” ?

· The cat shook his head in the middle part that really cute. If do it again I want to add this action and make it longer than now.

what would you improve about that flip book? And how?

· The shot of the cat turning around is difficult to distinguish. If do it again I will try to zoom in on the character and use a white line to draw out the inner contour of the character.

· At the end part, the position of the cat is too close to the inside of the book, which is neither beautiful nor easy to flip and the whole flip book’s story is not strong, the ending is too hasty. Next time I will make a storyboard and some draft to enhance the story and make sure the position of the character.

02.16 Idea generation workshop

·Reflection

This is a good try for me, I still need to improve my colors. Although the color looks bright but has no characteristics. I should draw more color drafts and refer to the color schemes of illustrators which are I like, such as Holly Warburton. In the end part, the letter design also is a problem. They are too big to be distinguished. Next time I will try to make different words have different letter sizes.

Difference between two collections

· The left one was published in 1994, mine was published in 2014.

· The left one’s background color is gray, right one’s background color is white.

· The left one is about Baoshi Fu and his wash painting, the right one is about an early animated film in china “Havoc in Heaven”.

· The color on the left is simpler, the color on the right is brighter and colorful.

· The left one is a philatelic set which has a high collection value, It’s has a separate box to protect and it is easier to collect. The right one is stored in my notebook, it’s not easier to collect.

· The face value on the left is ten cents to one yuan, and the face value on the right is eighty cents to one yuan.

·The stamp on the left is upright, the stamp on the right is horizontal.

·What is successful about this drawing?

The “color” and the “form” are successful. The former is a good record of the color of the petals and the latter is a good record of its form.

·What would you improve about that drawing?

I want to improve the “outline” part. Next time I will adjust their size so that they can better compose patterns.

I really like this puppy’s color and this background. But if do it again I want to add more animal. It looks too monotonous if only have a puppy.

This illustration is inspired by collecting same color things, I also tried to color them with the photograph application.

By collecting the same color things made me realize which color is my favorite. Obviously, yellow objects have become a part of my life, except for items in the photo, I also have a yellow keyboard, sheets, alarm clock, etc. It really brings me so much fun.

The movie “Hope” also inspired me a lot. There is no direct description of sexual assault and child abuse in the film, but it’s saddened to describe it in profile through the reactions of family and friends.

· Color Research

There is some color research that I did. I really like the colors of Majewsk and Vittoria and I try to use them in my outcome

·What was successful and why?
I think my greatest success in this project is to learn a new creative process. Cause of at before I usually think that my outcome is not complete but I didn’t know how to improve it by myself. This new process let me have more opportunities to try a new picture. I don’t have to worry about the light source of the picture anymore.

·What could you improve and how?
First of all, I should seed up my drawing. I need a lot of practice so that I can master this drawing program faster. Second, I really need to consider how to make text and pictures work better. At present, I haven’t thought of a better way besides reading more picture books.

·What were the key moments in your research that led to your ideas?
Practitioner research is the key moment that led to my ideas, at part one “Trafficked Children”, the idea of this vending machine is from one of my favorite illustrators “Wei Jia”. I also refer to many works of photographer “Eiji Ohashi”. I like this group of photos she took. The vending machines in the photos seem to be given emotions, especially at night, they are as lonely as human. Another illustrator “Yige Jiang” who shared her creative process, it helps me and inspired me a lot.

·How could you improve this process in future projects?
I think I will try to observe more processes of different practitioners. I realize that some practitioners will try more form of outcome that before their outcome finish. This aroused my interest and made me think it would make my project more complete.

·Which research practices were useful and why?
Most research practices were useful cause I do a lot of plans that make sure what I want to express and what should I include in my research, but some initial research is always not very useful. For example，my page design note, it‘s inspired me and allowed me to learn a lot of new knowledge, but it doesn’t work in my outcome.

·How will you improve your research in future Project？
I will make some more clear plans, they will include the completion time of each step and each blog should have which part of the research. To my way of thinking more color experiments is also a good suggestion. At this time, I only did some color research and imitating the colors of other practitioners. This resulted in limited colors in my pictures. Hopefully, next time I will like this illustrator that tries more and more color drafts for outcome during the research period.
